Mailboxes FAQ

3. What are the IDs required to file the USPS Form 1583?

To file USPS Form 1583, you must provide two forms of identification to verify your identity. These IDs are necessary to ensure the security and legitimacy of the mail-receiving process. The United States Postal Service (USPS) has specific requirements for acceptable forms of identification, and at least one of the IDs must contain a photograph of the Applicant. Here are the types of IDs you can use:

1. **Photo ID (must include a photograph and expiration date (non-expired)):**
- U.S. State/Territory/Tribal Driver's or Nondriver's ID Card
- Uniformed Service ID
- Passport
- Certificate of Naturalization
- U.S. Access Card
- Matricula Consular (Mexican Consulate Identification)
- U.S. Permanent Resident Card
- U.S. University ID Card
- NEXUS card

2. **AddressID:**
- U.S. State/Territory/Tribal Driver's or Nondriver's ID Card
- Current lease
- Home or Vehicle Insurance Policy
- Mortgage or Deed of Trust
- Vehicle Registration Card
- Voter Card

Although the driver's/nondriver's ID is listed as an option for both the Applicant's photo ID and address ID, it may be used for only one of the IDs (either photo ID or address ID), not for both.

When submitting Form 1583, ensure that your IDs are current and valid. Photocopies of the IDs will be attached to the form as part of the verification process. Providing these IDs enables the Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) to handle your mail securely and legally, ensuring compliance with USPS regulations.
